Not sure about anyone else but I was gob smacked at recent stories in the papers and on the News about schools asking for donations to secure First place choices and how more locally Cumbria County Council had denied over 200 Parents their child's first, second and third places for this coming September.
All through this campaign the County Councils have said that parental choice is important... what choice have these parents had and what has it come to where you are donating money to secure your child's place. How can the system be so corrupt to allow this to happen?
Its obvious that in the case of the Carlisle academy parents don't want it and are voting as such by their choices... why the hell won't the Council listen to the parents, its obvious in Carlisle and very obvious in Barrow we don't want it.!
What does everyone else think of the Councils tactics..... there are other instances this is not the only example... I wouldn't be surprised if they start refusing first place choice in Barrow if they choose to close one of the schools this year....

it's very clear that the council just don't care about their electorate - they want to rush academy through in barrow and don't seem to care what the parents want - i thought council were there to represent the electorate, not their own inflated ego's
carlisle families are showing thier views on their academies - i'm alarmed that council can make decisions with such blatant disregard of the parents, pupils and the taxpayers
The government have highlighted a need for more housing.
Where in the Barrow is there suitable land available?I can't think of any,unless of course school land is to be freed.The proposed academy,in my view,is just a way to make land available and has little to with enhancing the education of our youth.
All existing schools are in areas developers would give their right arm for.
Exactly and who is one of the main lead sponsors?... Brian Scowcroft and apparently he is a propert developer... And I read somewhere the ther week that he has been appointed to some board in London with Lord Adonis to do with Academies ???... This just stinks of corruption to me..
Yes, Brian Scowcroft (and others)has been appointed by Lord Adonis to raise the level of education in Cumbria CC schools.
What incentive will Brian Scowcroft have in doing this when he is the main financial sponsor to the proposed Academy in Barrow? Surely it is in his interest to prove how BADLY the LEA schools are, to justify his new Academy!
